Frequently asked questions
Is Duckaby free?
The app is free. Sleep Coach — a step-by-step sleep plan built from your baby's own log — is a $29 one-time pre-order; it isn't built yet, we'll build it if enough parents want it, and it's fully refundable within 30 days or any time before it ships.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no Duckaby account. Your log is stored on your phone.
How does family sharing work, and can Duckaby read what I share?
You share an invite link; the secret that encrypts your data lives after the # in that link and is never sent to any server. Each family phone derives its own key from that secret. Our relay stores and forwards only encrypted data — it cannot read it. See the full explanation.
What if I need to remove someone from my family?
In Settings you can either let the family follow you automatically to a new secret, or choose "Remove & re-invite everyone" for a clean break. The second option is safer against someone who kept a copy of the old key, because the new secret only goes to people you invite directly. Either way, a removed member keeps whatever data they already synced — nothing can take that back.
What devices does Duckaby run on?
Android is available today. iOS support is in progress — we'll announce it here when it's ready.
Is Duckaby medical advice?
No. Duckaby is a notebook and planner that shows general, sourced information — it does not diagnose and it is not a safety monitor. If you're worried, call your clinician; in an emergency call 911.
How accurate is the nap predictor?
It's an estimate, not a promise. It has been validated on synthetic (generated) data only so far — real accuracy is unknown until real babies' logs exist, which is exactly what the in-app scorecard is for: it replays your baby's last 14 days and shows you the predictor's actual in-window rate.
Can I get my data out, or delete it?
Yes. There's a CSV export you can bring to a pediatrician visit. Deleting the app deletes your local data (unless your phone's own backup kept a copy). If you've used family sharing, email support@duckaby.com to have the encrypted copy removed from our relay — it's unreadable to us either way.
What happens to my data if I lose my phone?
If you were sharing with family, join again with your invite on a new phone and the shared baby log syncs back from a family member's device. Private health notes that were never shared stay only on the lost phone.
Can I get a refund on Sleep Coach?
Yes — full refund within 30 days, or any time before it ships, no questions asked. If we decide not to build it, you get your money back. See the refund policy.
How do I contact support?
Email support@duckaby.com. A person reads every message; we aim to reply within 2 days. Please don't send health details or your family invite link — we don't need them.
Is the glucose feature a diagnosis tool?
No. It's a notebook that compares your Libre sensor with your finger-prick meter and flags readings that may be a false low. Targets are shown against finger pricks only; your care team decides on treatment.
Is the postpartum mood check a diagnosis?
No. It's the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, a screening tool, not a diagnosis — with support lines included.
What is the Nursery Listener, and is it a safety monitor?
Coming soon — a spare phone will log sleep from sound, processed on the device; audio is never stored or sent. It is not a breathing, oxygen or safety monitor.
Where do the state facts (WIC, Medicaid, paid leave, car-seat law) come from?
Each state fact links to its own source in the app, because laws change and we'd rather you check the primary source than trust a stale summary.
Does "Ask Duckaby" send my data anywhere?
No, by default — it runs entirely on your phone from your own log. Connecting it to an AI model you run yourself (like Ollama) or to your own Home Assistant is optional and off by default; those connections go from your phone to a server you control, not to us.
